In 2016, I met an amazing young lady that changed my life. I work at a local hospital and one day met Josie and her mother.  Josie was there because she is fighting a horrible disease called Neuroblastoma, a form of cancer. After talking to them I learned that Josie loves to fish and likes the color pink. It amazed me that through all she was going through, Josie has a smile that is contagious and lights up the room. At that time I was new to rod building and just knew my next build had to go to this young fighter! I went home and began making plans.

 

The day came to give Josie her new rod. I'll admit, I was a little nervous. When she saw it, she LOVED it! It made me so happy and proud to make her smile. Eventually, with the help of several other rod builders we were able to give Josie's entire family rods so they can all enjoy the outdoors together.

Josie's family was grateful and gave me the encouragement to continue to donate fishing rods to other kids who are fighting battles. In her honor, I am calling this project, Josie's Gift.

 

In order to continue this project, a portion of the proceeds from each rod Uncle D's Custom Rods sells will be donated to providing other children with this gift. With help from fellow rod builders, my vision to put a smile on as many young faces as we can.
